2012-13 NFC West Odds
(The Spread) – While the division is slowly improving as a whole, the San Francisco 49ers remain the clear favorites to win the NFC West this season.
Oddsmakers have installed the Niners as –250 money line favorites to win the NFC West Division in 2013, while the Seattle Seahawks have the next best odds at +400. The Arizona Cardinals are currently listed at +750 to win the division, while the St. Louis Rams are the long shots at +1000.
The Rams were active in free agency, signing cornerback Cortland Finnegan (Titans), center Scott Wells (Packers), as well as defensive lineman Kendall Langford and Trevor Laws. They also hired former Titans head coach Jeff Fisher and GM Les Snead, formerly of the Falcons’ front office. With a slew of picks in April’s draft, St. Louis selected DT Michael Brockers, CB Janoris Jenkins, RB Isaiah Pead, and CB Trumaine Johnson, among others.
The 49ers were active in free agency, as well. They signed receivers Mario Manningham and Randy Moss, and re-signed Alex Smith, Carlos Rogers and Ted Ginn. In the draft, San Fran added to its receiving corps again with the selection of A.J. Jenkins. The Niners also drafted former Oregon running back LaMichael James in the second round.
The Seahawks made a small splash in free agency by signing quarterback Matt Flynn (Packers), although most of their time was spent re-signing their own guys. They brought back defensive end Red Bryant, extended fellow lineman Chris Clemons’ deal, and re-upped with linebacker Leroy Hill as well. Seattle also signed defensive end Jason Jones (Titans) and surprised observers with their selection of Bruce Irvin in the first round of April’s draft.
Arizona, meanwhile, did next to nothing in free agency. The Cards lost Richard Marshall to the Dolphins and replaced him with former Steelers defensive back William Gay. They also selected receiver Michael Floyd in April’s draft, as well as Oklahoma cornerback Jamell Fleming.
