2012-13 AFC East Division Odds
(The Spread) – Following their Super Bowl appearance back in February, it’s no surprise to see that Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots are currently favored to win the AFC East Division in 2012.
Oddsmakers have installed the Patriots as -350 money line favorites to win the AFC Division while the New York Jets have the next best odds at +600. The Buffalo Bills are directly behind the Jets at +700 and the Miami Dolphins are the division’s long shots at +1200.
The Bills made the biggest splash in the division this offseason by signing free agent Mario Williams to a six-year deal. Along with fellow free agent Mark Anderson and first-round pick Stephon Gilmore, Williams is being counted on to resurrect Buffalo’s defense.
The Patriots also made a free agent splash of their own by signing Brandon Lloyd to a three-year deal. The Pats went mostly defense in the draft, selecting Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones and Alabama linebacker Dont’a Hightower in the first, as well as Illinois safety Tavon Wilson in the second and defensive end Jake Bequette of Arkansas in the third.
The Dolphins’ biggest move came in the draft when they selected Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill, whom they believe is the future of their franchise. They also hired a new head coach in Joe Philbin and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, who coached Tannehill at Texas A&M.
Outside of signing free agent safety LaRon Landry the Jets were rather quiet in free agency. They drafted talented but raw prospect Quinton Coples of North Carolina in the first round, as well as Georgia Tech receiver Stephen Hill in the second.
The Patriots also have the second-best odds behind the Green Bay Packers (6/1) to win the 2013 Super Bowl at 13/2. The Jets are 28/1 long shots while the Bills are 50/1 and the Dolphins are 75/1. Directly behind the Patriots are the 49ers at 10/1 odds to win this season’s Super Bowl and the Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles, who are 12/1, respectively.
