Bears vs. Rams Free Pick
The Rams will look to rebound from their loss to the Vikings last week when they host the Bears as a 7-point home favorite today at 1:00PM ET.
The Odds
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Rams are 7-point home favorites for today’s game after opening as an 8-point favorite over the Bears. As for the total, it opened at 42.5 and that’s where it currently sits.
The Records
After beating San Diego as a 4-point underdog on Monday Night Football, Chicago is 3-5 straight up and 4-4 against the spread. St. Louis, meanwhile, is 4-4 overall and 4-4 at the betting window.
The Pick
This is a bad matchup for the Bears, who want to spread opponents out under Adam Gase. The Rams are essentially playing with five defensive backs because of Mark Barron’s insertion at linebacker (in place of the injured Alec Ogletree), so as long as they tackle in open space they should be fine on defense. That said, St. Louis owns the least efficient passing game in the NFL and have become one dimension on offense. Minnesota loaded the box last weekend in efforts to slow down Todd Gurley and then brought extra defenders when it got the Rams in third-and-long. With pressure in his face and his receivers jammed on the outside, Nick Foles wasn’t able to exploit the one-on-one matchups that the Vikings provided in coverage. This is all a long ways of saying that 7 points is way too much to lay on a Rams team that wants to win games on the strength of their defense and running game. Jay Cutler has been more efficient under Gase and should keep the Bears within a touchdown.
