Bowles with Best Odds to get Axed
Will Todd Bowles of the Jets be the first head coach fired in the NFL this season?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Bowles is a clear favorite to either be fired, to resign, or retire at 5/1 odds. After Bowles, there are a handful of coaches with 10/1 odds, including Adam Gase of the Dolphins, Bill O’Brien of the Texans, Chuck Pagano of the Colts, Jim Caldwell of the Lions, and Marvin Lewis of the Bengals.

Continuing with the odds, Hue Jackson of the Browns, John Fox of the Bears, and Sean Payton of the Saints are all 12/1, respectively. Ben McAdoo of the Giants has 15/1 odds, followed by Dan Quinn of the Falcons, Mike McCarthy of the Packers, and Mike Zimmer of the Vikings at 20/1 respectively.
Some other coaches with odds who are unlikely to meet their fate in 2017 are Doug Marrone of the Jaguars, Doug Pederson of the Eagles, Jason Garrett of the Cowboys and Jay Gruden of the Redskins at 25/1, respectively. Dirk Koetter of the upstart Buccaneers is 30/1, as is Ron Rivera of the Panthers.

Other long shots include Anthony Lynn of the Chargers, who is in his first year, as well as Bruce Arians of the Cardinals, Jack Del Rio of the Raiders, John Harbaugh of the Ravens, Mike Tomlin of the Steelers, Sean McDermott of the Bills, Sean McVay of the Rams, and Vance Joseph of the Broncos. All of those coaches listed are 50/1.
Our Prediction: Bowles is the clear favorite for a reason, but he still offers great value at 5/1. There were rumors this offseason that the team could get rid of Bowles and considering he’s working with a roster completely devoid of talent, he’s the best play on the board here.
If you’re looking for more of a long-shot, Lewis has been rumored to be a goner in Cincinnati for some time and with the Bengals not making the playoffs last year, perhaps he’ll meet his fate if the team comes up short again.
Arians could retire, so that’s an intriguing deep long-shot, while Fox at 12/1 also offers great value. During the draft, there were reports that stated general manager Ryan Pace didn’t converse with Fox before trading up to select North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky. If the GM and coach aren’t on the same page, that’s not a good look. The Bears won’t compete this year, so Fox could be on the chopping block as well.
