Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have already installed the Packers as 2.5-point favorites over the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. Thanks to a great defensive effort against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Green Bay won the NFC Conference Championship, 21-14.
On a day when Aaron Rodgers only threw for 244 yards and was intercepted twice, the Green Bay defense held Chicago to just 14 points. The Packers covered as 3.5-point favorites, while the combined score fell under the posted total of 42.5 points.
Jay Cutler is being criticized for not gutting out a knee injury that he suffered in the first half. He was eventually replaced by Todd Collins, who was eventually replaced by Caleb Hanie (who threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, but also threw a pick-six to DT B.J. Raji).
In the AFC Conference Championship Game, the Steelers jumped out to a 24-0 lead before having to hold off the Jets in the second half. Thanks to a huge third down conversion with under two minutes to play, Pittsburgh held on to a 24-19 victory to advance to Super Bowl XLV.
Ben Roethlisberger threw for just 133 yards but he didn’t need a big game because Rashard Mendenhall rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown. The Steelers covered as 4-point favorites, while the combined score went over the posted total of 38 points.
Jets’ QB Mark Sanchez put a disastrous first half behind him to throw for 233 yards and a touchdown. But in the end, Rex Ryan’s defense couldn’t come up with one last stop to give Sanchez and the Jets’ offense another crack at the end zone.
Super Bowl XLV will take place on February 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Christina Aguilera will sing the National Anthem while Black Eyed Peas will perform the halftime show.
