For the second straight year in the AFC, the New England Patriots will host the Baltimore Ravens with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. A year ago at this time, the Patriots beat the Ravens 23-20 in New England as 7-point favorites. Billy Cundiff had an opportunity to tie the game with a 32-yard field goal at the end of the fourth quarter, but his attempt missed and New England wound up in the Super Bowl two weeks later. Lee Evans also dropped a pass in the end zone a couple of plays before Cundiff’s miss, although the kicker would quickly become the scapegoat.
The Patriots beat Houston 41-28 on Sunday to advance. Baltimore beat Denver 38-35 in two overtimes Saturday.
The Patriots have opened as 9.5-point favorites versus the Ravens, while the total is set at 51. It will be the second week in a row that Baltimore is a 9.5-point road underdog, following its dramatic 38-35 victory over the Broncos in Denver last Saturday.
In the NFC, it will be San Francisco traveling to Atlanta, with the Falcons defense trying to stop a versatile, running quarterback for the second straight week. On Saturday night at Candlestick Park, Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to their second straight NFC title game appearance with a 45-31 win over the Green Bay Packers. On Sunday, the Falcons needed every second to edge out Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks 30-28, as Matt Bryant hit a 49-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the game. Atlanta had blown a 20-0 lead when Seattle scored with 36 seconds remaining in the game to go up 28-27. But two Matt Ryan passes later, the Falcons were in position for Bryant’s game-winning kick.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the 49ers have opened as 3.5-point road favorites versus the Falcons next Sunday. The total, meanwhile, opened at 47.5 points and is sure to go up following the high scores in all four Divisional Round games.
