NFL Divisional Round Betting: Public Bettors Siding with Falcons 1/13/18

Public Bettors Siding with Falcons

We’re a few hours away from kickoff between the Falcons and Eagles and public bettors continue to hammer one side of this matchup.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Eagles are now 2.5-point home underdogs to beat the Falcons, who opened as a 3-point favorite. That line movement occurred despite 60% of betting tickets for this game being on Atlanta minus the points. The reverse line movement indicates this is a “Joes vs. Pros” matchup with public bettors siding with the Falcons and wiseguys taking the home dog.

As for the betting action on the total, 61% of the betting tickets and 55% of the money is on the over but there’s been a ton of reverse line movement on the number. After hitting the board at 43.5, the over/under is now down to 40 at the majority of sports books.

The Eagles are the first No. 1 seed in NFL playoff history to be a home underdog against a No. 6 seed. The reason is obvious: Nick Foles was thrust into action in December when Carson Wentz tore his ACL in a win over the Rams. Foles played great in spot duty that day and in the following week against the Giants, but they fell apart on Christmas night versus the Raiders. While he was pulled early in a Week 17 game against the Cowboys, he threw an interception in that 6-0 loss for Dallas.

Meanwhile, Atlanta has not fared well at the betting window in Philadelphia. The Falcons are just 2-6 against the spread in their last six road games versus the Eagles. The home team has also covered in four of the last five meetings between these two teams.
