NFL Eagles vs. Lions Odds: Why Jordan Matthews may struggle Thursday

Lions to limit Jordan Matthews?

The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping to snap out of a funk when they meet the Detroit Lions today at 12:30PM ET. Will Jordan Matthews be able to help them?

View NFL Odds

According to oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag, the Lions come into today’s game as a slim favorite, as they are getting odds of -2 points against the Eagles. The over/under total for the contest has been set at just 45.5 points. These two meet up today at 12:30PM ET on FOX.

The Eagles are 4-6 currently and riding a two-game losing streak where they have been held under 20 points in both games. Many expected Philly to be an unstoppable offense this year, but the Eagles rank just 15th in points (22.9 per game) and 14th in passing (255.8 ypg). Jordan Matthews is the leading receiver with 55 catches for 565 yards, be he has been largely quiet as of late too and facing a tough challenge today against Detroit’s Darius Slay.

The Lions are 3-7 on the year and riding a two-game win streak with Slay’s improved play a big part of that. The Lions have held their last two opponents to 16 points or less with Slay matchup up against a combo of Randall Cobb/James Jones two weeks ago and then Amari Cooper last Sunday. Cobb was limited to 55 yards while Jones went without a reception as the Lions snapped a 24-game losing streak at Green Bay. For Cooper, he was nearly shutout as well, being held to one catch for four yards. Slay is listed as questionable with a neck injury, but still expected to play today.

Oddsmakers have set Matthews’ over/under total for receiving yards in this game at 61.5, but that number looks like it could be tough to get. Matthews has only done that three times for the season as is, let alone meeting up with someone like Slay, who is on a hot streak.
