Saints defense learning Spagnuolo D
METAIRIE, La. (AP) – The all-out blitzing the Saints unleashed during recent seasons appears to be a thing of the past under new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
New Orleans’ defense looks and even sounds different under Spagnuolo, who is a little more understated than his brazen predecessor, Gregg Williams, though not necessarily less aggressive.

Saints free safety Malcolm Jenkins says the new defense “isn’t a sit-back defense.” He says there’s still pressure coming from various spots, even if there aren’t the seven-man pass rushes the Saints often brought the past three seasons under former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
Spagnuolo says the Saints will play more zone to limit big plays, but he also says he won’t throw away what worked well in the past and will adapt his schemes to his players’ strengths.
