Rams vs. Patriots Pick

Will bettors cash the over this Sunday when the Patriots host the Rams at 1:00PM ET in Foxboro?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Patriots are 13.5-point home favorites versus the Rams while the over/under currently sits at 44.5 points. New England opened as a 13-point favorite before the line was bet up a half-point, while the total opened at 46 before dropping to 44.5.

The Rams are coming off yet another loss, this time at the hands of the Saints in New Orleans. Sean Payton seemed to make it personal with his former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, as the Saints racked up 49 points on Williams’ defense, including on a trick play in the fourth quarter when the game was well in hand. The Rams fell to 4-7 on the season and after failing to cover as an 8-point underdog last week, they’re now 4-6-1 against the spread.

The Patriots have now won back-to-back games after rallying to beat the Jets 22-17 in East Rutherford last Sunday. With that win, New England is now 9-2 on the year but after failing to cover last Sunday in New York, the Pats are 8-3 at the betting window. Tom Brady leads the team with 2,201 passing yards while LeGarrette Blount has a NFL-leading 12 touchdowns to go along with his 869 rushing yards.

OUR PREDICTION: Payton made things personal with Williams last Sunday and Bill Belichick figures to make things personal with Jeff Fisher. Back in 2009 when Fisher was still the head coach of the Titans, his team went into Foxboro on a snowy October day the Patriots throttled Tennessee 59-0 and were still attempting passes in the fourth quarter. Then in 2012 when the Rams and Patriots traveled to London to play, New England hung 45 points on Fisher’s new team. For whatever reason, Belichick likes to rub it in with Fisher and I fully expect the Patriots to score 30-plus points on Sunday. With Jared Goff playing well for a half last week and the Patriots’ defense not being dominant this year, the Rams should also contribute enough points to push the combined score over as well.
