Can Smith pass on HOU?
Alex Smith has the Kansas City Chiefs as the hottest team entering the playoffs. Can he lead the Chiefs to a win over the Houston Texans in today’s Wild Card Playoff?
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Kansas City is favored in the game, as the Chiefs are getting odds of -3 points against the Texans. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 40 points. These two meet today at 4:20PM ET on ESPN/ABC.
Smith, the former No. 1 overall pick, is having arguably his best season as a pro. He has thrown for 3,486 yards and 20 touchdowns for the Chiefs (11-5, 8-8 ATS) while throwing just 7 interceptions. He is also completing 65.3 percent of his passes. Smith has the Chiefs on a 10-game winning streak, but he has been under 200 yards passing in his last five games.
Today, Smith leads the Chiefs against the Texans (9-7, 9-7 ATS). Houston has the third-ranked passing defense in the NFL. The Texans have allowed just 210.4 yards per game through the air. In this playoff game, oddsmakers have set Smith’s passing yards at 213.5 and his pass attempts at 32.5. The Texans have allowed at least 215 passing yards in three of their last four games. Smith has thrown for 214 or more in seven games. He also has had 33 pass attempts in four games. These two met in the season opener and Smith went 22 of 33 passing for 243 yards with three touchdowns. With Houston being stronger against the pass, KC may look to keep the ball on the ground and that could impact Smith’s attempt total. 214 yards isn’t a lot to deal with, but the pass attempts seems likes a lofty mark.
