NFL Predictions: Are the Chargers a Safe Bet to Cover vs. Redskins? 12/10/17

Browns vs. Chargers to be low-scoring? NFL Predictions 12/1/17 Browns vs. Chargers to be low-scoring? NFL Predictions 12/1/17

Redskins vs. Chargers Prediction

Are the Los Angeles Chargers a safe bet to cover the point spread on Sunday afternoon when they host the banged-up Redskins at 4:05 p.m. ET?

Who Oddsmakers Like: Los Angeles. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Chargers are 6.5-point home favorites to beat the Redskins, who also opened as 6.5-point underdogs. As for the total, the number hit the board at 46 but has been bet up to 47.

Who the Public Likes: With a few hours before kickoff, the Chargers are receiving 55% of the betting tickets but 63% of the money is on the Redskins. That indicates that while public bettors are on Los Angeles, sharp bettors are on Washington.

Who the Trends Like: The Chargers. The favorite is 4-0-1 against the spread in the last five games between these two teams while the home squad is 3-1-1 against the number in the last five meetings.

Who We Like: Los Angeles. Public bettors were let down by the Chargers a week ago when they hosted the winless Browns as a double-digit home favorite and failed to cover. That said, the Chargers are currently in a three-way tie in the AFC West with the Raiders and Chiefs so we should see L.A.’s best effort today (especially since a winner and a loser will emerge from the Kansas City-Oakland game earlier today).

The Redskins are also severely banged-up, especially along the offensive line. Ty Nsekhe (core), Trent Williams (knee), and Morgan Moses (leg) are all questionable. Tight end Jordan Reed has already been ruled out and center Spencer Long has been out since November with a quad injury.

How much motivation will Washington have for this game, too? The Redskins essentially saw the season end last Thursday when they fell to the Cowboys. Now they have to play their second-straight road game with basically nothing on the line. No thanks.
