NFL Predictions: Are Titans sleeper playoff contender in 2017? 8/17/17

Titans Season Win Prediction

Are the Tennessee Titans a sleeper playoff contender in 2017? Let’s break down their odds.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Titans’ win total is sitting at 8.5 for 2017. They’re also a 40/1 long shot to win the Super Bowl and have odds of 20/1 to win the AFC Conference Championship this upcoming season. Finally, they’re 9/5 co-favorites to win the AFC South Division. (The Texans also have 9/5 odds to win the division.)

Bet Tennessee Titans Season Odds

General manager Jon Robinson hoped to improve the back end of the Titans’ defense with several free agent signings. Among them were cornerback Logan Ryan, previously of the Patriots, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract. Former Jaguars safety Jonathan Cyprien also signed a four-year, $25 million deal while defensive tackle Sylvester Williams got three years and $17.5 million. Karl Klug was brought back on a two-year deal, while receiver Eric Decker and Eric Weems were signed in free agency.

As far as the draft, the Titans had a pair of first-round picks thanks to a trade in 2016 with the Rams for the No. 1 overall pick. With those two selections, Tennessee took Western Michigan receiver Corey Davis and USC cornerback Adoree’ Jackson. The team also owned two third-round selections in which they took Western Kentucky wideout Taywan Taylor and Florida Internationals tight end Jonnu Smith.

Our Prediction: Marcus Mariota is on the verge of a breakout campaign and now has serious weapons in Davis, Decker, Taylor and running backs DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry. They also own a top 5 offensive line and one of the best running games in football. Where the questions lie are on defense. The front seven looks great, but if Robinson missed on the free agent additions Ryan, Cyprien and Jackson, then the Titans could fall short of lofty expectations. That said, I believe Tennessee is a sleeper playoff contender and I’ll roll the dice on the over.
