NFL Predictions: Could Patriots go undefeated in 2017 Season? 7/27/17

Patriots’ 2017 Over/Under Prediction

Could the Patriots actually go 16-0 in the regular season? Here’s our prediction for New England’s 2017 win total.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Patriots’ win total for 2017 has been set at 12.5. New England is also a 31/10 favorite to win the 2018 Super Bowl after winning last season’s title and is 1/12 to win the AFC East Division. No other team in the division comes close to matching the Patriots’ odds to win the East this season.

The Patriots were extremely busy this offseason, adding pieces to their offense in Mike Gillislee, Rex Burkhead and Brandin Cooks, who was acquired via trade with the New Orleans Saints. Bill Belichick and Co. also traded for former Panthers defensive end Kony Ealy, signed linebacker David Harris after the Jets released him, and added cornerback Stephon Gilmore via free agency as well.

In the draft, New England didn’t make a selection until the third round. In that round, the Patriots selected defensive end Derek Rivers from Youngstown State and offensive tackle Antonio Garcia of Troy. In the fourth, the Pats nabbed Arkansas defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. and in the sixth, the team selected UCLA offensive tackle Conor McDermott.

Our Prediction: There’s an argument to be made that the Patriots could run the table in 2017, so there’s plenty of value in taking the ‘over 12.5’ for their season total. Tom Brady might be aging, but his play hasn’t dropped and the team gave him a true vertical threat in Cooks. With Rob Gronkowski healthy, this offense is going to be unstoppable at times in 2017. This is one of the deepest teams Belichick has ever had and this is unquestionably the deepest team in the league this season.
