NFL Predictions: Has window closed on Cardinals to make playoffs? 8/17/17

Cardinals Season Win Prediction

Has the window closed on the Arizona Cardinals or do they have at least one more run in them to make the playoffs?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Cardinals have an over/under of 8.5 for their number of wins in 2017. They’re also 35/1 to win the Super Bowl, are 17/1 to win the NFC Conference Championship, and are 7/2 to win the NFC West Division.

The Cardinals signed three former San Francisco 49ers players this offseason in safety Antoine Bethea, quarterback Blaine Gabbert, and kicker Phil Dawson. Arizona also added former Pittsburgh pass-rusher Jarvis Jones and re-signed defensive tackle Frostee Rucker, running backs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington, among others.

In the draft, the Cardinals added to their defense with their first two picks. With their first selection in the first round (13th overall), the team nabbed Temple linebacker Haason Reddick and in the second, Arizona selected Washington safety Budda Baker. In the third round, the Cardinals took Grambling State wide receiver Chad Williams.

Our Prediction: Carson Palmer took a massive step back in 2016 after a MVP-like performance in 2015. But he rebounded in the second half, throwing 19 touchdown passes to just nine interceptions from Weeks 8 through 17. If John Brown, Tyrann Mathieu and Jared Veldheer stay healthy (unlike last season), then the Cardinals are going to be competitive again. Consider this: The Cardinals have posted double-digit wins in 3-of-4 seasons under Bruce Arians. I think they have one more run in them.
