NFL Predictions: How many wins will Rams finish with in 2017? 7/27/17

Rams 2017 Win Total Prediction

Armed with a new coaching staff, how many wins with the L.A. Rams finish with in 2017?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Rams’ win total has been set at 5.5 for the upcoming NFL season. The team is also a 75/1 long shot to win the 2018 Super Bowl and is 20/1 to win the NFC West.

This offseason, the Rams attempted to upgrade their offensive line by signing long-time veteran Andrew Whitworth and trading mega bust Greg Robinson to the Lions. They also added former Redskins offensive lineman John Sullivan to play center and signed Robert Woods to beef up the wide receiver position. On defense, the Rams added pass-rusher Connor Barwin.

New coach Sean McVay was without a first-round pick in his first draft because GM Les Snead traded it to the Titans in order to select Jared Goff with the first overall pick last year. In the second round, the Rams selected South Alabama tight end Gerald Evertt and then in the third, the team nabbed Eastern Washington receiver Cooper Kupp and Boston College safety John Johnson.

Our Prediction: Goff should improve now that he has a coach that actually knows what he’s doing on offense. That said, the offensive line still has major question marks on the right side and the skill positions are still devoid of talent.

Plus, Goff looked woefully lost a season ago so he would have to make tremendous strides if the Rams are going to win six-plus games this year. Will Todd Gurley bounce back from a rough sophomore year? Will McVay do something that the previous coaching regime couldn’t, which is making use of Tavon Austin? This is still one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

The defense will be good enough, but this isn’t the same unit that Jeff Fisher built a couple of years ago. Wade Phillips is an outstanding coach but the Rams’ best overall player, Aaron Donald, seemingly isn’t a fit for the team’s new 3-4 defense. A case can be made that Alec Ogtree isn’t either.

I don’t see this team winning over five games this season. I love the under.
