NFL Predictions: Los Angeles Chargers vs. New York Jets 12/24/17

Chargers vs. Jets Pick

Can the Los Angeles Chargers go on the road and cruise to a comfortable win over the New York Jets when the two meet today at 1PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Los Angeles is favored on the road, as the Chargers are getting odds of -6.5 points against New York. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 42.5 points. The Chargers have won two straight meetings with the Jets, covering the spread in both wins. The public betting in this game has 63 percent of the wagers going on the Chargers on the road. Today’s game takes place from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey and will air live on CBS.

The Chargers saw a four-game win streak snapped last week in a 30-13 loss at Kansas City. Los Angeles is now 7-7 on the season and 7-6-1 against the spread. The Chargers have failed to cover in two of their last three. Los Angeles is averaging 22.2 points and 376.1 yards per game this season while the defense is holding opponents to only 18.2 points and 346.5 yards per game. Philip Rivers has thrown for 3,838 yards and 24 touchdowns this season to lead the offense while Keenan Allen has caught 88 passes for 1,197 yards and five scores. Melvin Gordon has added 931 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while catching 49 passes for 398 yards and four scores. The defense is being led by Joey Bosa, who has 61 tackles and 11.5 sacks.

The Jets have lost two straight and four of their last five, including a 31-19 loss at New Orleans last week. New York is now 5-9 on the season and 8-5-1 against the spread. However, they are just 2-3 ATS in their last five games. New York is giving up 24.4 points and 362.1 yards per game this season while the offense is averaging 20.4 points and 329.6 yards per game. Josh McCown broken his hand in recent action and is on IR so Bryce Petty will be under center today. Petty has thrown for 193 yards on 21 of 48 passing. He has one TD with two interceptions. Robby Anderson has caught 57 passes for 888 yards and seven scores while Bilal Powell is the leading rusher with 58 1yards and four scores.

Bet on Chargers vs. Jets

The Chargers seem like they should be able to take care of business today, but Los Angeles is known for letdown performances as well. The Jets are actually 7-1 against the spread in their last 8 at home and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight conference games. The Chargers are just 1-6 ATS In their last 7 in December and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss. I see the Chargers struggling today out East and this game coming down to the wire.
