NFL Predictions: Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles 12/11/16

Redskins vs. Eagles Prediction

Will the Washington Redskins stay in the playoff mix and eliminate the Philadelphia Eagles when the two meet today at 1PM ET?

According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Redskins are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -2.5 points against the Eagles. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 46.5 points. Washington has won four straight meetings with Philly, including a 27-20 win at home on Oct. 16. The Redskins have covered the spread in five straight against the Eagles as well.

Washington has lost two straight coming into this game to drop to 6-5-1 on the year and fall out of the NFC East chase, but the Skins still can find themselves in the Wild Card mix with a win. Washington is 8-4 against the spread on the year and 4-1 ATS in its last five games. Washington has a very sound offense that is averaging impressive totals of 25.3 points and 429.7 yards per game. They have one of the top passing attacks in the NFL at 320.2 yards per game. Kirk Cousins has thrown for 3,811 yards and 21 touchdowns this season to lead the team. Despite injuries to his top two targets in Jordan Reed (shoulder) and Jamison Crowder (hip), both are expected to play today. Defensively, Washington has struggled in 2016, allowing 24.6 points and 386.5 yards per game. They still have 30 sacks as a team, led by 10 from Ryan Kerrigan.

Bet on Redskins vs. Eagles

The Eagles are in a hole, as they have dropped three straight and five of their last six to fall to 5-7 on the season. Their last three losses have all been by double digits as they are also just 5-7 against the spread. Despite the losses, the Philadelphia defense has been tough, as it has given up just 20.4 points and 358.6 yards per game. Philly has 26 sacks and forced 18 turnovers this year as a unit. Offensively, Philly is putting up just 22.3 points and 351.5 yards per game. Carson Wentz has come back down to reality since a fast start to his rookie season. Wentz has thrown for 2,901 yards with 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season. His leading receiver, Jordan Matthews, sat out last game with an ankle injury, but is expected to return today. While the Eagles average over 100 rushing yards per game on the season, they are struggling to find any consistency in the backfield. Ryan Mathews is the leading rusher with 427 yards and seven scores, but he has missed the last two games with a MCL sprain. He is expected to play today as well.

The Redskins can be a hard team to trust at times, but they have shown an ability to win these tough road games late in the season over the past few seasons. Cousins has been poised enough to lead Washington to wins, the defense just has to get enough stops on a struggling Philadelphia offense. I think that will happen as Washington keeps its playoff hopes alive.
