Eagles vs. Giants Prediction
Will the Philadelphia Eagles circle the wagons and rally behind backup quarterback Nick Foles when they visit the New York Giants at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday?
Who Oddsmakers Like: Philadelphia. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Eagles are 7.5-point road favorites to beat the Giants, who opened as 8-point home underdogs before the line dropped a half-point. As for the total, the number currently sits at 40.5 points after hitting the board at 40.
Who the Public Likes: Philadelphia. As of Sunday morning, 69% of the betting tickets are on the Eagles to cover the spread and 72% of the money is also on Philadelphia.
Who the Trends Like: The over and the Eagles. The over is 5-0 in the last five meetings between these two teams in New York and is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall. The Eagles are also 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 road games versus the Giants and 13-5-1 at the betting window in their last 19 games overall versus New York.
Who We Like: Philadelphia. Losing Carson Wentz was a huge blow to the Eagles’ Super Bowl hopes but that doesn’t mean Foles can’t lead them to a win today. Foles is at worst a league-average quarterback. With good coaching (Andy Reid, Doug Pederson, Chip Kelly) he was a solid player. With bad coaching (Jeff Fisher) he was horrendous. Throw out his years in St. Louis and Foles is more than capable of handling a NFL offense.
The Eagles are in the top-10 in both scoring offense and scoring defense. Wentz was an X-factor and Foles doesn’t have Wentz upside. But the Eagles aren’t built around just one player. They should be plenty motivated to prove that they’re still the team to beat in the NFC, even after losing Wentz.
On the other side is the Giants, who were tied 10-10 heading into the fourth quarter last week until the Cowboys scored 20 unanswered points in the final frame. I backed the Giants in Eli’s return last week but I won’t make that same mistake twice. Even if New York hangs for a quarter or two, Philly should eventually pull away.
