NFL Preseason Week 2 8/20/16 Chiefs vs. Rams Predictions

Rams to battle Chiefs, old quarterback Rams to battle Chiefs, old quarterback

Rams to battle Chiefs, old quarterback

Nick Foles didn’t exactly prosper as a member of the Rams. In about 14 hours, though, he’ll have the opportunity to inflict some damage against them.

The Chiefs’ newest quarterback will see plenty of action vs. Los Angeles in tonight’s preseason affair. According to oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv, Jeff Fisher’s squad represents a 1-point favorite. The over/under is 39.

General manager Les Snead acquired Foles from Philadelphia prior to the 2015 campaign, viewing the signal-caller as a key component of the offense moving forward. The Arizona product crashed and burned, however, completing 56 percent of his passes and throwing 10 interceptions. Fisher benched him in favor of Case Keenum following a Week 11 defeat to Arizona.

Los Angeles’ decision to use the first overall pick in April’s draft on California’s Jared Goff rendered Foles completely irrelevant. After the veteran was cut on the eve of training camp, though, Kansas City coach Andy Reid jumped at the chance to reunite with his old trigger man in Philadelphia. Foles is scheduled to take all snaps in the third quarter this evening.

Before that, however, Alex Smith will receive a few cracks at the Rams’ vaunted defense. The Chiefs’ first-string offense looked quite sharp last weekend, marching 49 yards in eight plays for an opening-drive touchdown. Kansas City ultimately fell short vs. Seattle, though, dropping a 17-16 verdict at Arrowhead Stadium.

Following a wretched first half, Los Angeles made the most of a primetime showcase vs. Dallas. Sean Mannion tossed three TDs in the host team’s 28-24 triumph, but he’ll cede a lot of reps to Keenum and Goff here. Considering both head coaches’ willingness to roll with quite a few regulars, we envision a decent amount of production across the board.
