Cardinals XLIV Odds
After making their first ever Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals are looking for a repeat performance in 2009.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Arizona Cardinals 22/1 long shots to win Super Bowl XLIV despite not only winning their division, but also their conference. The Cards inevitably lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in February’s Super Bowl.
The Cardinals had a couple of concerns entering the 2009 offseason, including signing quarterback Kurt Warner, Bertrand Berry, Adrian Wilson and Karlos Dansby to new contracts. Arizona was able to re-sign Warner, Wilson and Berry, but they had to franchise Dansby and are roughly $2 million under the salary cap, although signing the linebacker to an extension would help lower their cap this year.
Another issue the Cards continue to face is what to do with receiver Anquan Boldin, who wants a new contract. Arizona seemingly doesn’t have enough money to sign all of their rookies and make Boldin happy, so trading him remains an option if he threatens to hold out. Boldin is still under contract for two more years, but it’s unclear at this point if he’ll suit up for the Cardinals in 2009.
At 22/1 odds, the Cardinals are a tremendous value to win the 2009 Super Bowl after they nearly beat the Steelers in February. But the Boldin contract situation is a distraction and they had to replace two coordinators. Still, the odds may never be better, especially if the Cards settle Boldin’s contract issue. Now might be the time to jump.
