Chiefs vs. Chargers Week 9 Odds
SAN DIEGO, CA (The Spread) – The Chargers are nearly double-digit favorites tonight when they host the Chiefs on Thursday Night Football in Week 9 of the NFL season.
Since starting the season 3-1 the Chargers have lost their last three games and are now tied for second place with the Raiders in the AFC West at 3-4. They’ve failed to cover the spread in their last three games, including in their 7-6 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 8. The over, meanwhile, has hit in three of San Diego’s last four games, although the combined score in last week’s game fell well under the posted total of 41.
As for the Chiefs, they haven’t been much better. In fact, they’ve been worse than their AFC West counterparts. Since beating the Saints 27-24 as a 9-point road underdog in Week 3, the Chiefs have lost four in a row and are coming off a 26-16 loss at home to Oakland. After failing to cover as a 1-point home favorite in Week 8, Kansas City is now 2-5 against the spread this season and hasn’t covered in three of its last four games. Matt Cassel is likely to return under center again this Thursday after Brady Quinn was knocked out in the first quarter versus the Raiders last Sunday.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Chargers are 9.5-point favorites over the Chiefs, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 42.5 points. The Chiefs enter this game with a straight up record of 1-6 and are 2-5 against the spread, while the Chargers are 3-4 straight up and 3-4 ATS.
TRENDS: The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams and 6-2 in the last eight meetings between the Chiefs and Chargers in San Diego. The under is also 4-0 in the Chiefs’ last four games in November and 10-1 in their last 11 games versus divisional opponents.
