Week 1 Injury Report

As the first Sunday of the NFL Season is about to get underway, here’s a closer look at some of the key injuries for today’s action.

One of the biggest injuries comes from the New York Giants as Odell Beckham Jr. is dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered in the preseason. Beckham was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, which can take more than a month to heal. It has only been a couple weeks of recovery for OBJ, but he made the trip with the Giants to Dallas, as they get set to face the Cowboys tonight at 8:30PM ET. Oddsmakers have the Cowboys as a 4-point favorite at home against the Giants tonight. Beckham had success against Dallas last year, catching eight passes for 169 yards and one touchdown in two games against the Cowboys. If Beckham is to play tonight, he is unlikely to be 100 percent and could be used as a decoy. He is officially listed as a game-time decision.

A big name that is definitely out today is Andrew Luck of the Colts. The injury to his throwing shoulder is lingering on to start the 2017 season and it is unclear how long he will be out. The Colts find themselves as a 4.5-point underdog on the road against the Los Angeles Rams today at 4:05PM ET. Indy was originally listed as a 3-point road favorite when the odds came out this offseason. Luck is coming off a 2016 where he threw for 4,240 yards and 31 touchdowns. Scott Tolzien will be starting in his place going forward. He has thrown for 937 yards with two touchdowns and seven interceptions in his career.

The Cleveland Browns can’t seem to catch a break as No. 1 pick Myles Garrett suffered a high ankle sprain of his own this week in practice and is now listed as out for today’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Oddsmakers have the Steelers listed as a 9-point favorite right now despite being on the road. Cleveland’s defense gave up 28.3 points and 392.4 yards per game last season while racking up only 26 sacks. The Browns were hoping Garrett would bring an immediate boost in that category, but he will now be out multiple weeks.
