NFL Week 1 Picks: Miami Dolphins vs. Seattle Seahawks 9/11/16

Dolphins vs. Seahawks Pick

Will today’s 4:05PM ET kickoff between the Dolphins and Seahawks wind up being a defensive struggle?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Seahawks are 10.5-point home favorites versus the Dolphins while the over/under currently sits at 44 points. There are some books that list Seattle at -10, but the majority have settled in on 10.5 after moving the number back and forth over the last few days.

The Dolphins have a new head coach in Adam Gase and the hope is that he’ll work wonders for quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who remains a polarizing player in Miami. The Dolphins also have a new running back in Arian Foster and a new pass-rusher in Mario Williams, who joins the Dolphins after spending the last four seasons in Buffalo. Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake and Reshad Jones are all back on defense and will be joined by newcomers Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell.

The Seahawks won’t have Marshawn Lynch in their backfield after the running back retired this offseason, but Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin and Thomas Rawls are all back. Plus, the defense that led Seattle to back-to-back Super Bowls this decade returns stalwarts Earl Thomas, Bobby Wagner, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril.

OUR PICK: This should be a defensive struggle throughout. One of the Dolphins’ strengths is their defensive line, which should be able to control an inexperienced Seahawks’ offensive line for much of the game. Wilson will make plays with both his arm and his legs, but if the Dolphins can control the line of scrimmage for stretches, this game should fall under. Plus, with Seattle’s outstanding defense giving Tannehill fits, even if the Seahawks start to roll Miami won’t contribute enough to push the score ‘over.’
