NFL Week 1 Public Betting: Falcons getting most of the wagers? 9/10/17

Week 1 Public Betting

As kickoff nears for Week 1 of the NFL Season, which teams are getting the most public betting supports on Sunday?

There are plenty of games on Sunday with lopsided betting numbers, but the game with the most public support is the Atlanta Falcons going on the road to face the Chicago Bears at 1PM ET. Oddsmakers have Atlanta listed as a 6-point favorite on the road against the Bears, but that’s not stopping bettors. Atlanta is getting 81 percent of the public wagers for today’s contest. The Falcons have had a lot to think about since losing the Super Bowl and could be eager to make a statement. Still, the Falcons are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven against the Bears and the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five games in this series.

The home team with the most public support today is the Houston Texans, who are hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1PM ET. Oddsmakers have the Texans listed as a 5-point favorite at home against the Jags, and the public is fully behind the Texans. Houston is getting 73 percent of the wagers as the favorite today. This game has an emotional factor to it, as the Texans will be heavily supported by the Houston fans, coming off Hurricane Harvey. The team, led by J.J. Watt, has done tremendous fundraising work and that is sure to garner a lot of cheers today. Aside from that, Houston has won six straight meetings with the Jags, going 4-2 against the spread in the process.

The game today that is most indecisive when it comes to the public support has the Buffalo Bills hosting the New York Jets at 1PM ET. Oddsmakers are listing Buffalo as an 8-point favorite against the Jets. The public is behind Buffalo, but not by much. The Bills are getting just 54 percent of the wagers as the favorite. Both teams have plenty of questions, but the Jets have one of the more unappealing rosters in football right now. The team is set to start Josh McCown at quarterback and they have few skill-position players to be excited about. Buffalo made a lot of moves in recent weeks, but still has a dynamic backfield with Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy. The Bills have started seasons strong, going 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 Week-1 games. The Jets are just 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games in September.
