PUBLIC BETTING: As of this writing, 60% of tickets are actually on the underdog Dolphins plus the points. Apparently public bettors aren’t buying into the Panthers yet despite Carolina’s 6-3 record.

OUR PREDICTION: I don’t see how Miami scores more than 10 points on this Carolina defense. The Panthers rank first in total yards allowed, fourth in passing yards allowed, second in rushing yards allowed and have the No. 3 scoring defense in the league, allowing just 17.7 points per game. After an off-year in 2016, the Panthers are playing the quality defense that made them the NFC champions in 2015.
Carolina also re-discovered its running game last week in its win over Atlanta. Cam Newton was more effective on read-option plays and rookie Christian McCaffrey was used in a variety of ways after Jonathan Stewart fumbled twice. If the Panthers’ rushing attack is back, then they can eat clock, dominant time of possession and lean on their defense…all things that benefit under bettors.
Speaking of the under, the combined score has fallen under the total in four of the last five meetings between these two teams. The under is also 4-1 in the Dolphins’ last five road games and 5-2-1 in the Panthers’ last eight home games.
