The Lions have won and covered the spread in six of their last seven games to get to 7-4 on the year and against the spread. Detroit is atop the NFC North standings right now by two games. Detroit’s defense has been solid as of late, holding opponents under 20 points in three straight games and five straight to 20 or less. For the season, Detroit is giving up just 21.6 points and 363.9 yards per game. The unit has some injury concerns as DE Ezekiel Ansah (ankle) is questionable and LB Tahir Whitehead (knee) is out today. Offensively, Detroit is putting up 22.5 points per game but averaging just 342.9 yards per contest. The Lions have one of the worst rushing attacks in the league at just 80.8 yards per game. Bet on Lions vs. Saints

The Saints are coming off a 49-21 win over the Rams last week to improve to 5-6 on the season. They are also an impressive 8-3 against the spread this season, covering in seven of their last eight games. New Orleans is averaging 30.4 points and 445.3 yards per game on offense this season. Michael Thomas has emerged as his top receiver with 65 catches for 789 yards and seven scores. Mark Ingram is the leading rusher with 721 yards and three scores. Defensively, New Orleans gives up big numbers, but it could be due in part to the team’s offensive output. They are giving up 27.9 points and 384.7 yards per game, including 285.6 passing yards per contest. They have managed to force 17 turnovers.

This is a big opportunity for the Lions to prove they are a real contender in the NFC, but they live a little too close to the edge, trailing in the fourth quarter of all 11 games this year. That isn’t likely to work out too well against this New Orleans offense on the road. The Saints should have too much firepower for the Lions to keep up with.
