NFL Week 14 Betting Recap
Another week in the NFL is nearly in the books and it was yet another Sunday when favorites dominated at the betting window. Here is a quick recap from Week 14.
Favorites vs. Underdogs
The title for this article is actually misleading because while favorites won, they didn’t necessarily dominate. Out of the 15 games that have been played in Week 14, eight favorites cashed at the betting window. One of those 15 games was a pick’em between the Lions and Bucs, so in all actuality, eight favorites hit in 14 games in Week 14.

That said, some of the bigger favorites failed to cover. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Bengals were a 6-point home favorite against the Bears and lost outright, 33-7. The Steelers rallied to beat the Ravens 39-38 but didn’t come close to covering as a 6-point home favorite on Sunday night. That said, the Chargers did cover as a 6.5-point home favorite in their 30-13 win over the Redskins.
Underdogs that Won Outright
As previously mentioned, Chicago won in Cincinnati as a 6-point underdog and a non-public play. The Panthers also beat the Vikings 31-24 as a 2.5-point home underdog while the Cardinals beat the Titans 12-7 as a 2.5-point home dog. The Broncos (+1 v.s Jets) and 49ers (+1.5 at Texans) were the other underdogs that won their games outright as underdogs.
Overs vs. Unders
Nothing misleading about this: Unders cashed big in Week 14. In the 15 games played in Week 14, the under hit in 10 of those contests. The lowest total on the board in Week 14 was the Colts-Bills game in Buffalo, which was played in a blizzard. The two teams only accounted for 20 combined points in the Bills’ 13-7 victory. That final fell well under the total of 36.5.
Bad Beats
Anyone who had the Ravens on the money line had to feel ripped off considering Baltimore held a 38-29 lead with 6:44 remaining in the game. Pittsburgh scored 10 unanswered points to win the game, 39-38.
Browns backers also have reason to feel salty. Cleveland entered the fourth quarter with a 21-14 lead but the Packers scored a touchdown with 17 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In the extra frame, anyone with the Browns +3 had to feel okay about a push. That is, until Davante Adams took a 25-yard pass from Brett Hundley and raced into the end zone for a cover for Green Bay.
One teaser that was ruined late was in the Eagles-Rams game. Philadelphia was a 1-point road favorite and was going to cover barring a miracle from Los Angeles with one second remaining on the clock. But with the game 37-35 Eagles, the Rams attempted a couple of laterals, only for Brandon Graham to scoop up the loose ball and race 16 yards for a touchdown. Anyone with Rams +6 on a teaser had to be punching a wall as the Eagles won 43-35.
