MINNESOTA: The Vikings are coming off a 36-22 win over the Rams on the road to get to 8-6 on the season. The Vikings currently hold one of the two Wild Card spots in the NFC, but may need to win out to secure a playoff bid. The Rams actually tallied 432 total yards against the Vikings, but Minnesota managed to force a pair of turnovers to get the victory. Minnesota only had 322 total yards, but the offense was led by Adrian Peterson once again, who had 212 yards on 24 carries, including an 82-yard touchdown run. Peterson has rushed for at least 100 yards in eight-straight games and he has 1,812 yards on the season. He is currently 294 yards away from Eric Dickerson’s single-season record and he is not backing down in his desire to get that record.
HOUSTON: The Texans bounced back from a 42-1 loss to the Patriots by beating the Colts, 29-17, last week to clinch the AFC South title. Houston is the top team in the AFC right now and the Texans can clinch the top seed with a win against the Vikings. In the victory over the Colts, the Texans dominated on both side of the ball, holding the Colts to just 272 yards of offense while racking up 417 yards of their own. Arian Foster had a strong game, as he rushed for 165 yards on 27 carries. It was the first 100-yard effort for Foster in three games. The key for Houston in this game will be limiting Peterson. Houston enters the game fifth in the league in rushing defense, allowing just 93.2 yards per game.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Houston is the clear favorite at home, as the Texans have odds of -9.5 points against the Vikings. The over/under total has been set at 43.5 points. Houston is 12-2 on the season, 6-1 at home and 9-5 against the spread. Minnesota is 8-6 on the season, 2-5 on the road and 6-7-1 against the spread.
TRENDS: The Vikings are just 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 road games and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games following a win. Houston comes into the game 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 19-5-2 ATS in their last 26 games on grass.
