Will the San Francisco 49ers stay hot and pull off the upset today when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars at 4:05 p.m. ET?
Who Oddsmakers Like: Jacksonville. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the 49ers are 4-point home underdogs to beat the Jaguars, who opened as a 5.5-point road favorite before the number was bet down. The total, meanwhile, sits at 42 points after hitting the board at 42.5.
Who the Public Likes: As of Sunday morning, 66% of betting tickets are on the Jaguars to cover the spread and 64% of the money is also on Jacksonville this afternoon.
Who the Trends Like: The Jaguars are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games played in December, are 4-1 against the number in their last five games overall, and have covered in seven of their last nine road games as well. On the other side, the 49ers are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games, are 3-8 against the number in their last 11 games coming off a win, and are 5-16-1 at the betting window in their last 26 games when playing an opponent with a winning record.
Who We Like: San Francisco. The 49ers have played like a completely different team since Jimmy Garoppolo has taken over as the starting quarterback. They’re playing with a ton of confidence, they’re winning games and they’re a rare team with nothing to play for playoff wise that has all the motivation in the world to keep racking up victories.
This is also a tough spot for the Jaguars. If the Rams beat the Titans in the early games, then the Jags will have the AFC South Division wrapped up and thus, will have nothing to play for by the time they kick off in Santa Clara. Plus, they’re traveling across country and playing an unfamiliar, non-conference foe. I’ll take my chances that the 49ers can keep it close, even against a stacked Jacksonville defense.
