NFL Week 17 Predictions: Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants 1/1/17

Redskins vs. Giants Prediction

Will the Washington Redskins roll in a must-win game today when it faces the New York Giants at 4:25PM ET?

According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Redskins are favored at home in this one, as they are getting odds of-7.5 points against the Giants. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 45 points. Washington has won two straight meetings with the Giants, including a 29-27 in New York back on Sept. 25. Washington has also covered the spread in both victories.

Bet on Giants vs. Redskins

Washington needs a win in this game as they sit at 8-6-1 right now. The Skins need a win and the Lions vs. Packers game to not end in a tie to earn the final Wild Card contest. The Skins come into this game 10-5 against the spread in 2016, but they were 1-1 ATS in games as a 7-point favorite or more. Washington is putting up 25.7 points and 421.3 yards per game this year to be one of the top offenses in the NFL. Kirk Cousins has thrown for 4,630 yards and 24 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. He has three receivers over 800 yards this year and two over 940 yards. Defensively, Washington is giving up 24.3 points and 397.2 yards per contest.

The Giants are coming off a surprising 24-19 loss at Philadelphia in Week 16 to fall to 10-5 on the season. New York has locked up the fifth seed in the NFC playoffs and that won’t change with a win or loss, so they may be looking to rest some starters in this one. New York is 8-6-1 against the spread this season. New York gives up 18.3 points and 356.8 yards per game on defense this season, but the offense only produces 19.4 points and 339.9 yards per game. The Giants lack much of a run game, averaging just 83.4 yards per game on the ground. Odell Beckham Jr. is the team’s only real playmaker on offense. He has 96 catches for 1,323 yards and 10 touchdowns. Eli Manning has thrown for 3,847 yards and 26 touchdowns this year, but also has 16 interceptions. It is unclear on how the Giants will handle both of these players knowing they have a road playoff game next week.

You’d think Washington will roll to a win today, but I think this game will be closer than anticipated. The Redskins seem to have competitive games for the most part and the Giants won’t be looking to go into the playoffs on a two-game losing streak. Somehow, I think the Giants keep this close and maybe even pull off the unlikely win.
