NFL Week 2 Public Betting: Raiders, Patriots getting most wagers? 9/17/17

Week 2 Public Betting Report

A busy Sunday of Week-2 action the NFL is just a matter of hours away. Here’s a closer look at what the public thinks of the spreads for today’s action.

The team with the most public support today is the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are playing host to the New York Jets at 4:05PM ET today and oddsmakers see them as a 13-point favorite. The bettors aren’t backing away from such a lopsided number, as the Raiders are getting 82 percent of the wagers on this game. Oakland looked good on the road last week, beating the Titans 26-16 as a 2.5-point underdog while the Jets suffered a 21-12 loss at Buffalo as a 7-point underdog. The Jets are just 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six trips to Oakland coming into today.

Another game with a lot of lopsided support should be to nobody’s surprise. The New England Patriots are hitting the road to face the New Orleans Saints at 1PM ET. Oddsmakers have the Patriots as a 6-point favorite on the road and the public is eating them up for 79 percent of the wagers. The Patriots were embarrassed at home in the season opener, losing 42-27 to the Chiefs as an 8-point favorite. The Saints weren’t much better, losing 29-19 at Minnesota as a 3-point underdog, but the game wasn’t even that close. New England has traditionally bounced back in a big way, as the Pats are 40-18-1 against the spread in their last 59 games after a loss and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 after a loss of 14 points or more.

Bet on NFL Week 2 Odds

The one game where the bettors are befuddled is the Los Angeles Chargers hosting the Miami Dolphins at 4:05PM ET. Oddsmakers have the Chargers listed as a 3.5-point favorite at home and the public wagers for this game are split right down the middle, 50-50. Bettors are unsure what to think of Miami, since the Dolphins’ season opener was postponed last week. Can Jay Cutler really lead the offense to a good season? The Chargers struggled most of last week’s game with the Broncos, but rallied to earn a push as a 3-point dog. Will playing in a soccer arena in Carson, California really provide much of a home-field advantage for the Chargers?
