NFL Week 4 Predictions: Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans 10/1/17

Titans vs. Texans Prediction

Will the Houston Texans defend their home turf and get past the Tennessee Titans when the two teams meet up today at 1PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Titans are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -2.5 points against the Texans. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 43.5 points. Houston has won five of the last six meetings with the Titans while covering the spread in six of the last seven in the series. Today’s game takes place from NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas and airs live on CBS.

Houston is 1-2 on the season following a 36-33 loss to the Patriots on the road last week. The Texans are 2-1 against the spread, covering in both road games. Houston is putting up just 17.7 points and 325.3 yards per game on offense as the unit continues to grow under rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson has thrown for 528 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions while rushing for 124 yards and a score. He played very competitively last week in a tough road game at New England. DeAndre Hopkins has caught 21 passes for 204 yards and a score. Watson gets a new weapon this week as Will Fuller is expect to join the team after suffering a broken collarbone in training camp. Lamar Miller is the leading rusher on the team with 182 yards. Defensively, Houston is giving up 24.7 points and 341 yards per game.

Tennessee improved to 2-1 on the season with a win over Seattle last week and the Titans are 2-1 against the spread, covering in their two wins. Tennessee is putting up 28.7 points and 388.3 yards per game behind one of the top rushing attacks in the league. DeMarco Murray has run for 184 yards while Derrick Henry has 171 yards. Marcus Mariota has thrown for 696 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 77 yards. Rishard Matthews is the leading receiver with 14 catches for 201 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Tennessee is allowing 23 points and 378.3 yards per game. Their run defense is holding opponents to just 92.3 rushing yards per game.

Bet on Titans vs. Texans

While Watson can be a good quarterback in the NFL, he is still going to go through some growing pains. He faces a Tennessee team today that is going to shut down the Houston run and force him to beat them. I am not sure I am ready to give him the credit to do that yet. Tennessee has a dangerous offense with three capable rushers and a passer that is better than what he gets credit for. Tennessee has torn up a pair of good defenses in the last two weeks and I think they tear up Houston today too.
