NFL Week 5 Picks: Will the Titans vs. Dolphins go under 42? 10/8/17

Titans vs. Dolphins Total Pick

Can the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans overcome offensive issues to put up a high total today at 1PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Tennessee is favored on the road, as the Titans are getting odds of -1 point against the Dolphins. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 42 points. The road team has won three straight in this series and the two have hit the over in four of their last five meetings. Today’s game takes place from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida and will air live on CBS.

Miami is coming off a very lackluster 20-0 loss to the Saints in London last week. The Dolphins have been held to just six points over their last two games. Miami is now 1-2 on the season and it has hit the under in all three games. The Dolphins are averaging 8.3 points and 271 yards per game on offense. Jay Ajayi has been held to just 184 rushing yards on 51 carries while Jay Cutler has thrown for 614 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Miami is allowing 19 points and 360.3 yards per game. Their run defense has been good, allowing just 77.7 yards per game on the ground.

The Titans are coming off a 57-14 loss at Houston last week to fall to 2-2 on the season. The Titans are 3-1 with the over right now. In the loss, Marcus Mariota suffered a hamstring injury that has him as a game-time decision to play this afternoon. Mariota has led the offense to an average of 25 points and 342 yards per game. Mariota has thrown for 792 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 116 yards and three scores. Matt Cassel will step in if Mariota can’t go. In the backfield, DeMarco Murray has 215 rushing yards while Derrick Henry has 178. The main issue for Tennessee this season has been the defense, which is giving up 31.5 points and 397.8 yards per game. The pass defense has been giving up 285.3 yards per contest.

Bet on Titans vs. Dolphins

Even if Mariota is able to play today, one has to expect he will be limited in his mobility due to the hamstring issue. That takes away a lot from what he brings to the Tennessee offense. Miami will be able to hone in on stopping the ground game and make Mariota a pocket passer, which isn’t his strength. The Miami offense is just a mess and I don’t see them fixing all of their issues after a game in London. Look for this contest to be low-scoring and ugly.
