NFL Week 5 Odds Breakdown
Which teams do oddsmakers favor in Week 5 of the NFL season? Here is our Betting Report for this week in the NFL.
The Biggest Spread
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Steelers are a 9-point home favorite this Sunday afternoon against the Jaguars. As of this writing, that’s the largest spread for Week 5. Before you jump on Pittsburgh, however, know that the underdog is 8-1 against the spread in the last nine meetings between these two teams. The road team is also 4-1 against the number in the last five meetings. Finally, the Jaguars are a surprising 5-2 against the spread in their last seven trips to Pittsburgh and have covered the number in 11 of their last 16 games versus the Steelers overall.
Biggest Home Underdog
That would be the 2-1 Buccaneers, who opened as a 5-point home dog versus the Patriots before the line dropped a half-point to 4.5. The favorite is a perfect 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings between these two teams and New England has been a great bet off a loss. Since 2003, the Patriots are a NFL-best 36-13 against the spread coming off a loss. Over that span, their margin of victory in those games is 12.7.
Smallest Spread
Suddenly, the Rams are good. So good that oddsmakers made the Rams just a 2.5-point underdog against division rival Seattle before dropping the game to a pick’em. The Rams have been a great play recently versus the Seahawks, too, covering in all five of their last five home games versus Seattle (that includes the Rams’ time in St. Louis). The Seahawks are just 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 meetings with the Rams, while the home team is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings.

Lowest Over/Under Total
About four people will tune in for the Jets-Browns matchup on Sunday afternoon, although maybe New York won some fans back after posting back-to-back victories. The total for this game hit the board at 39.5 but apparently that wasn’t low enough because the number was bet down to 39.
Highest Over/Under
We head back to Tampa to answer this question. The over/under in the Patriots-Bucs game on Thursday night has been set at 54. It actually opened at 53.5, but oddsmakers adjusted quickly and bumped it up a half-point. The Packers-Cowboys game on Sunday afternoon also has a high total, with the number sitting at 52.5. Dallas is a 2.5-point home favorite in that matchup.
