NFL Week 5 Scores & Recap
Sunday in Week 5 of the NFL turned out to be the day of the underdog, as eight of the 13 teams getting points covered. Read on to check out some Week 5 scores in the NFL, as well as a recap of who covered and who didn’t.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com surprisingly made the Bills a 2.5-point favorite on Sunday, but they were beaten handily by the Jaguars, 36-26. The combined score went over the posted total of 41.5 points.
Another underdog that won outright in Week 5 was the Bucs, who beat the Bengals 24-21 and covered at +6.5. The combined points scored of 45 points went over the total of 38.
The Redskins also won outright on Sunday, beating the Packers 16-13 in overtime thanks to a fourth quarter comeback and a great day by safety LaRon Landry. The Skins covered as a 2.5-point dog, while the over/under fell under the posted total of 45.5 points.
Even though they were playing the winless Panthers, many people thought the Bears would fall today without Jay Cutler. Instead, Matt Forte had a career-best day in Chicago’s 23-6 victory, as the Bears covered as 2.5-point dogs. The over/under total fell under the posted total of 33 points.
The Giants looked outstanding in Houston on Sunday, beating the Texans 34-10 as a 3-point dog. The over/under total fell just under the 48.5 points. Houston as now lost its last two games at home.
Two huge surprises came in the late games, as the Cardinals upset the defending Super Bowl champion Saints 30-20 as a 6.5-point dog, and the Raiders beat the Chargers 35-27 as a 7-point underdog. The Titans also earned an outright win late in the day, as they beat the Cowboys 34-27 as a 6.5-point dog.
The favorites that won today were the Colts (who beat the Chiefs, 19-9 as a 7.5-point favorite), the Lions (who crushed the Rams 44-6 as a 3-point home fav), Ravens (who beat the Broncos 31-17 as an 8-point favorite), and the Falcons, who beat the Browns 20-10 as a 3-point road favorite.
In the Sunday Night Game, the Eagles beat the 49ers 27-24 as a 3-point underdog thanks in large part to multiple San Francisco turnovers. The Niners are now 0-5 on the season despite many pundits predicting that they would win the NFC West this year.
