NFL Week 7 Injury Report: Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers 10/20/16

Pack’s secondary littered with woes right now

Entering tonight’s divisional showdown with the Bears, the Packers have more to worry about than just Aaron Rodgers’ shockingly ordinary play of late.

Coach Mike McCarthy must figure out a way to topple a desperate Chicago team without his top three corners. To make matters worse, top tailbacks Eddie Lacy and James Starks are banged up. It all explains why online sports book BetDSI lists Green Bay as a mere 7.5-point favorite at Lambeau Field.

Secondary leader Sam Shields went on injured reserve Sept. 11 due to a concussion. Meanwhile, second-year defensive backs Quinten Rollins and Damarious Rollins continue to battle groin injuries. Bears quarterback Brian Hoyer doesn’t often inspire much fantasy confidence, but he could enjoy a field day against the unheralded likes of Micah Hyde, LaDarius Gunter, Josh Hawkins and Demetri Goodson.

As for the Pack’s own signal-caller, he’d better perform a quick about-face. Rodgers ranks 20th in the NFL in passer rating, but he probably shouldn’t count on help from either of his main backfield friends this evening. Lacy just fought through a sprained ankle against Dallas, and Starks underwent knee surgery over the weekend. That guarantees a trial-by-fire opportunity for the recently acquired Knile Davis.

John Fox’s ground game actually seems in pretty good shape now that Jordan Howard has stepped to the forefront. The rookie’s fared exceptionally well in place of regular starter Jeremy Langford (ankle), amassing 330 yards in the past three contests. Expect him to receive another heavy load here as the Bears try to improve to 2-5.
