NFL Week 9 Predictions: New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers 11/6/16

Saints vs. 49ers Prediction

Will the Saints light up the 49ers today in Santa Clara or will San Francisco cover as a home dog at 4:05PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the 49ers are 4.5-point home underdogs versus the Saints while the over/under currently sits at 53 points. The Niners opened as a 3-point underdog before the line was bet up to 4.5, while the total went from 51 up 53 earlier this week.

Bet Today’s NFL Games

The Saints have won three of their last four games following an 0-3 start. Drew Brees continues to play at an elite level, averaging 338.0 passing yards per game, which is the most in the NFL and is on pace to be the third-most in NFL history. He’s also second in the NFL in passing touchdowns with 18 despite playing on fewer game than league-leader Matt Ryan.

The 49ers, meanwhile, have lost their last three home games and have dropped six straight overall. They rank dead last in scoring margin at -10.7 and yards per game margin at -117.6. Since their 28-0 Week 1 win over the Rams, they’ve been far and away the worst team in the NFL in several categories according to ESPN.com.

OUR PREDICTION: The 49ers have been dreadful but this feels like a trap. The Saints are coming off the huge win over the Seahawks last week at home and the 49ers can’t move the ball no matter who is under center. But after failing to cover the spread in six-straight games, perhaps the Niners are due. The Saints are 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games versus a team with a losing record and have failed to cover in seven of 10 road games versus a team with a losing home record as well. New Orleans looks slightly better defensively, but this still feels like a field goal game either way. I’ll roll the dice on the home dog.
