Public Bettors Backing Jaguars

It’s not by a wide margin but public bettors are backing the Jaguars ahead of their Wild Card matchup with the Bills on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m. ET.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Jaguars are currently 8.5-point home favorites to beat the visiting Bills, who opened as 7-point road underdogs earlier in the week. As for the total, the number hit the board at 40, dropped slightly to 39.5, but is now back up to 40.

As of Sunday morning, 52% of the betting tickets are on the Jaguars to cover the point spread and 55% of the money is also on Jacksonville. As usual when it comes to underdogs, 63% of the money line betting tickets are on the Bills.

Buffalo ended the longest active postseason appearance drought in the four major North American pro sports leagues this season. The Bills are in the playoffs for the first time since they lost to the Titans in the “Music City Miracle” 1999 Wild Card game. They have not won a playoff game since the 1995 Wild Card matchup with the Dolphins. Only the Bengals and Lions have longer active droughts since their last postseason victory.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars will host a playoff game for the first time since the 1999 AFC Championship Game, which resulted in a 33-14 loss to the Titans. Tom Coughlin was the Jaguars head coach that season and now he’s the EVP of Football Operations. This will be just the second time that the Jaguars meeting the Bills in the playoffs. These two teams also met in the 1996 Wild Card round.

The Bills are 0-4 against the spread in their last four playoff games and are 2-7 against the number in their last nine games played in the month of January. On the other side, the Jaguars are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games and have covered in six of their last eight conference tilts as well.
