Titans vs. Chiefs Playoff Prediction

Who Oddsmakers Like: Kansas City. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Chiefs are 9-point home favorites to beat the Titans, who opened as 7-point underdogs. The total, meanwhile, sits at 44.5 points and hasn’t budged off the original number.

Who the Public Likes: Kansas City. As of Saturday morning, 57% of the betting tickets are on the Chiefs to cover the spread while 56% of the money is on the Titans.

Who the Trends Like: Tennessee and the over. The road team has covered the spread in seven of the last eight meetings between these two teams while the Titans have cashed in five of their last six trips to Kansas City. The over is also 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these two teams.

Who We Like: Tennessee. The Titans were paper tigers this season. They played one of the easiest schedules in the league and still needed to win on the final week just to make the playoffs and they’re one of only two playoff teams with a negative point differential. That said, this is too many points.

Kansas City has the worst rush defense in DVOA, which should mean big things for Derrick Henry, who will be the primary ballcarrier for the Titans today with DeMarco Murray out. If Tennessee can run the ball successfully, it can control clock and limit possessions for Kansas City. That’s when those nine points will come in handy.

The Chiefs also struggle inside the red zone, scoring touchdowns on just 42% of their drives inside the 20. That ranks 29th in the NFL and it’s the worst mark among playoff teams this year. The Titans are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall while the Chiefs have failed to cover in eight of their last nine playoff games.
