Packers favored big vs. Lions
GREEN BAY, WI (The Spread) – Everything is at stake this Sunday when the Green Bay Packers host the Detroit Lions at 4:25PM ET.
Green Bay is coming off a 20-3 win at Tampa Bay last week. The Packers have won six of their last seven games to get to 11-4 on the year. Aaron Rodgers is dealing with a calf strain coming into this game, but he is fully expected to play against the Lions. Green Bay is 8-6-1 against the spread this season, but just 2-3 ATS in its last five games. The Packers have hit the under in four of their last five meetings.
Detroit is coming off a 20-14 win at Chicago last week for its fourth straight win. The Lions are now 11-4 as well. The winner of this game will win the NFC North and, at worst, be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The loser will be the No. 6 seed. The Lions will be short-handed for this game as center Dominic Raiola has been suspended for the game after he stopped on a Chicago defensive lineman last week. The Lions are 7-8 against the spread this season and just 3-6 ATS in their last nine. They have hit the under in six of their last eight games.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Green Bay is the clear favorite in this game, as the Packers are getting odds of -7.5 points against the Lions on Sunday. The over/under total for the game has been set at 47 points (View Matchup). The home team has won four straight in this series, including a 19-7 win for Detroit on Sept. 21. The Lions haven’t won in Green Bay since 1991.
The first meeting between these two was about the Detroit defense. The unit held Green Bay to just 223 total yards and 147 passing yards while picking up a defensive touchdown in the process. Aaron Rodgers was just 16 of 27 passing for 162 yards with one touchdown. He was sacked twice. Matthew Stafford threw for 246 yards, but had two interceptions. He is coming off a two-interception performance last week in Chicago as well. His last three road games have seen him throw four interceptions and no touchdowns.
