Cam Newton now favored to win MVP
With his Panthers now 12-0, quarterback Cam Newton is the current favorite to win the NFL MVP award this season.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book RealBet.eu, Newton is a 1/3 favorite to win the MVP award this season. Not only has he led the Panthers to an undefeated season and a NFC South championship, but he’s also thrown for 2,797 yards, rushed for 476 yards, and has scored a combined 32 touchdowns on the season. In Carolina’s 41-38 win over New Orleans last week, Newton threw for 331 yards with five touchdown passes and also rushed 10 times for 49 yards.
Tom Brady’s stock has taken a hit over the last two weeks with the Patriots losing back-to-back games. After being listed as the favorite to win the award last week, the Patriots’ QB is now 5/2 to win the MVP award this season. Statistically he’s been better than Newton, throwing for 3,912 yards with 31 touchdowns to just six interceptions, although you have to go off the stat sheet to appreciate all Cam has done for the Panthers this season.
Finally, Carson Palmer is still listed third when it comes to MVP odds, as he’s 8/1 to win the award. He led the Cardinals to their 11th victory of the season on Thursday night in a win over the Vikings. He’s having one of this best seasons as a pro, throwing for 4,003 yards with 31 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has Arizona in position to secure the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoff picture.
