Carolina Panthers DFS Spin
ESPN’s Dan Graziano “wouldn’t be surprised” if Baker Mayfield returns as the Panthers’ starter in 2023. Mayfield set career lows before shoulder surgery ended his season in Week 14 last year. Re-signing with the Panthers, who traded for Mayfield in July, is in play if Mayfield rebounds closer to what he was in 2020. Mayfield looked healthy in his Panthers’ debut, throwing for 235 yards with two touchdowns. With third-rounder Matt Corral (Lisfranc, IR) returning and only four picks in the 2023 draft, the Panthers may look to re-sign Mayfield this offseason.
New York Giants DFS Spin
Daniel Jones completed 17-of-21 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Giants’ 21-20, Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans. Jones and the Giants were shutout in the first half of this one, but came alive for two touchdowns in the third quarter. Jones’ biggest throw of the day came midway through the third when he chucked a pass deep downfield to Sterling Shepard, who outran the rest of the Tennessee defense on his way to a 65-yard score. Jones would throw his second touchdown of the day on a one-yard pass to tight end Chris Myarick, and then convert a two-point conversion to put the Giants up by the final score of 21-20. While Jones turned in some highlights in this one, he also lost a fumble, and through a crucial interception in the end zone as the Giants were looking to take the lead. Head coach Brian Daboll has a lot of work to do to fix the former first-round draft pick if he’s to be the Giant’s quarterback of the future, but today offered a lot to build on. Jones shouldn’t be trusted as anything more than a QB2 in next week’s game against the Panthers.
