Patriots vs. Bills Odds
BUFFALO, NY (The Spread) – The New England Patriots can establish why it’s the favorite in the AFC East on Sunday when it hits the road to face the Buffalo Bills at 1PM ET on CBS.
New England went 12-4 in the regular season last year and the Patriots were 9-6-1 against the spread while hitting the over in 11 of the 16 games. Buffalo was 6-10 last season while going 7-9 against the spread and hitting the over and under eight times each.
Trends show that the Patriots have covered the spread in 8 of their last 9 trips to Buffalo and the road team has covered the spread in 7 of the last 9 in this series. These two teams have went the over the point total in their last 4 meetings.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, the Patriots are the clear favorite in this game, as they have odds of -10 points on the road against the Bills. The over/under total for this contest has been set at 51 points (View Matchup). The opening odds for this game had New England favored by just 7.5 points, but the spread has made a steady climb up to 10 points. The over/under total opened at 53 points, its peak. The total has not gotten lower than 51 points.
The Patriots appear primed for another strong season behind its offense, which ranked tops in the league in points and total yards last season. The offense has some question marks with the loss of key receiving targets, but the Pats still have Tom Brady, who threw for just under 5,000 yards last year. New England also seems set with running back Stevan Ridley, who could give the unit more balance this year. Defensively, New England ranked 29th in the league in passing yards allowed, but part of that was due to teams playing from behind against New England.
Buffalo had problems last season on defense, allowing 27.2 points and 362.9 yards per game. The Bills were 31st in the league in rushing yards allowed. To make matters worse, Buffalo has a lot of concerns with its offense this year, as the Bills will turn to a rookie quarterback in either E.J. Manuel, the 16th overall pick in the NFL Draft, or undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel to run the offense. Manuel is the man to take over the job if healthy, but he has an injury right now that could force Tuel to get the start right out of the gate. Buffalo does have running back C.J. Spiller to turn to, but opponents will key in on him until the quarterback is able to starting beating them over the top.
In terms of Injuries, New England tight end Rob Gronkowski is uncertain to play due to offseason surgery on his forearm. Buffalo center Doug Legursky is doubtful with a leg injury while safety Jairus Byrd is questionable with a foot injury.
The Public Bets for this game are currently backing New England, as the Patriots are getting 69% of the wagers with a point spread of -10 against Buffalo on Sunday.
