New England Patriots DFS Spin
Patriots quarterback Mac Jones played the first three series of New England’s Monday night game against Chicago and then sat the rest of the game as backup QB Bailey Zappe took over. Mac Jones reportedly took 90% of the first team reps at practice on Monday and will start the Patriots’ Week 8 game at the Jets. Because of the uncertainty at quarterback, I’d be hesitant to start any New England pass catchers against a Jets defense that is only allowing 6 yards per pass attempt, the 7th-best mark in the league.
Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson has asserted himself as New England’s lead back and he recorded 19 touches in the Patriots’ 33-14 home loss to the Bears on Monday. He could be a big factor in the game on Sunday. If you need a defense, New England might be worth a look as a value play. The Patriots rank 4th in the NFL in takeaways per game (1.9) and 8th in opponent yards per pass attempt (6.3).
New York Jets DFS Spin
The Jets suffered a major blow this past weekend as star rookie running back Breece Hall tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. The Jets promptly traded for Jaguars running back James Robinson this week, but he’ll need some time to learn the offense and probably won’t get a full complement of carries if he suits up. That leaves second-year Jets running back Michael Carter to receive the bulk of the workload. Carter has only averaged 3.8 yards per carry this season, but he did average 4.3 yards per carry and 9 yards per catch last year, so he could have some value as a flex play.
Jets wide receiver Corey Davis did not practice Wednesday and is considered day-to-day for Sunday’s clash with the Patriots. He’s been officially ruled out for Sunday’s game. This means that Jets’ wide receiver Garrett Wilson and tight end Tyler Conklin could see an increased target share against New England. Wilson and Conklin are 1-2 on the Jets in targets and receptions and could be nice sleeper plays this weekend.
Patriots vs. Jets Betting Trends
New England is 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing over 350 total yards in their previous game.
New England is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against the AFC East.
New York is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
The home team is 10-4-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings between New England and New York.
Patriots vs. Jets Prediction:
New England has been an inconsistent team all year, even when they knew who the quarterback was going to be every week. Last week’s 33-14 blowout loss to the Bears may have been a harbinger of bad things to come for the Patriots. In that contest, Mac Jones started the game and was then removed from the game where he watched Bailey Zappe throw 2 interceptions. The Jets’ defense is legit. They rank in the top 10 in yards allowed per pass attempt, yards allowed per rushing attempt, takeaways per game, and points allowed per game. I think New York has a good shot at winning this game outright but I’ll take the home team and the points as the pick.
