Point spread in Packers vs. Lions drops below key number

Pack-Lions’ spread drops under field goal

Earlier today we speculated that the point spread for tonight’s Packers and Lions game in Detroit wouldn’t drop below a field goal. We were wrong.

After opening as a 5.5-point underdog, the Lions are now a 2.5-point home dog versus the Packers tonight at 8:25PM ET. According to oddsmakers from online sports book RealBet.eu, the over/under is back up to 47 after it was sitting at 46.5 on Thursday morning.

With 75% of public bettors currently backing the Packers to cover the spread, the line movement for tonight’s game is a clear indication that sharps are taking the Lions. The question now is whether or not oddsmakers will feel forced to move the line back up to a field goal with more public money coming in on Green Bay leading up to kickoff. If the number stays below a field goal, then obviously oddsmakers respect the sharp money that is being laid on Detroit.

The Lions are just 3-13-1 against the spread in their last 17 games in December and 1-6 against the number in their last seven games versus divisional opponents. That said, they beat the Packers outright as a 10.5-point underdog at Lambeau Field a couple of weeks ago, and have played significantly better since their bye week following an embarrassing loss to Kansas City in London.
