Ravens vs. Browns NFL Odds: Is Cleveland better off with Josh McCown?

McCown better for Browns?

Johnny Manziel is on the bench and Josh McCown is now leading the Cleveland Browns against the Baltimore Ravens. Is that actually better for Cleveland?

View NFL Odds

According to oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag, Cleveland is favored in today’s game, as the Browns are getting odds of -3.5 points against the Ravens. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 41 points. These two meet tonight in Monday Night Football at 8:30PM ET on ESPN.

McCown steps in for the Browns (2-8 overall, 4-6 ATS) after Manziel was benched to third string following video coming out of him drinking at a night club during the team’s bye week. McCown opened the season as the starting QB and has put up good numbers while battling injuries. He has thrown for 1,897 yards and 11 touchdowns with just four interceptions. In the games McCown has played the majority of, the Browns have moved the ball well. He has thrown for over 300 yards in three of six games where he has played a majority of the snaps, including a 33-30 OT win at Baltimore on Oct. 11 where he threw for 457 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. The Browns were just 1-5 in the games he played heavily, but three of those loses were by one score.

Oddsmakers have set McCown’s over/under for passing yards tonight at 260.5, while his touchdown passes are listed at 1.5. McCown has had at least two touchdowns passes in five of the six games he’s been featured and he’s went over 260 yards in four of those six games. He faces a Ravens team (3-7 overall, 1-7-2 ATS) that ranks 24th in passing defense, allowing 257 yards per game. The Ravens also come in with QB issues as Joe Flacco suffered a torn ACL last week, which puts Matt Schaub into the starting role. He has yet to throw a pass in a game this season and only had 10 attempts in the 2014 season. Schaub will lead an offense that has already lost leading receiver Steve Smith and leading rusher Justin Forsett for the season as well. Schaub’s passing yards over/under mark has been set at 250.5 for tonight. He faces the 26th-ranked pass defense in Cleveland, as the Browns give up 268.5 yards per game through the air.
