Seattle Seahawks DFS Spin
Geno Smith completed 19-of-31 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Seahawks’ 19-16, Week 18 overtime win over the Rams. With his modest 213 yards this afternoon, Smith arrived at 4,282 on the year, the Seahawks’ new single-season passing record. Not even the most optimistic Seattle partisan likely had that in the range of outcomes when Smith easily bested Drew Lock in the Seahawks’ supposed “quarterback competition” over the summer. The victory also keeps the Seahawks’ playoff hopes alive, though they will need a Packers loss on Sunday Night Football. After coming out white hot this season, Smith looked much more like a journeyman “bridge” option down the stretch, tossing five picks to eight scores over his five starts. His efficiency also greatly declined, as he failed to reach 7.0 yards per attempt in any of his final four starts. He was probably still in the top half of the league’s quarterbacks, but the 32-year-old certainly didn’t look like the long-term answer in Seattle. Of course, he could still easily be the 2023 answer, though the Seahawks will have the Broncos’ blue chip draft pick. An impending free agent, Smith’s most likely outcome is re-upping with the ‘Hawks.
San Francisco 49ers DFS Spin
Deebo Samuel caught 2-of-3 targets for 20 yards in the 49ers’ Week 18 win over the Cardinals, adding one carry for four yards. Week 18 was Samuel’s first game back from a three-game absence due to an ankle injury. The 49ers understandably took it easy on him, including giving Samuel and the rest of the starters the fourth quarter off. Samuel should be expected to play a larger role in the offense in the 49ers’ Wild Card game against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. He will be a boom/bust option for DFS purposes.
