SEA vs. CAR: The spread that keeps dropping

Out of the four games this weekend, there’s one Divisional round NFL playoff matchup that continues to drop the closer we get to kickoff.

After the number opened at 3, the point spread in Sunday’s Seahawks-Panthers matchup is now down to 1 point according to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI. Carolina was the team that opened as a 3-point favorite but earlier this week the number fell to Panthers -2.5, and now Seattle is just a 1-point underdog as of Friday morning.

Just under 70% of public bettors are taking the Panthers to cover the spread, yet the line keeps moving in favor of the Seahawks. This is commonly referred to as “reverse line movement,” and is an indication that more money is being placed on Seattle despite more betting tickets being placed on Carolina.

This doesn’t mean that the line won’t creep back up to a field goal by the time these two teams kick off on Sunday. So if dead set on taking the Panthers, now is the time to jump on them. The value might not get any better than -1 if you’re taking Carolina this weekend.
