2012-13 Seahawks Season Odds
SEATTLE, WA (The Spread) – The Seattle Seahawks should at least be competitive in a weak NFC West Division but will their quarterback situation hold them back from winning more than seven games in 2012?
Oddsmakers have installed the Seahawks as 60/1 long shots to win the 2013 Super Bowl and 30/1 to win the 2013 NFC Championship. Seattle is also 4/1 to win the NFC West Division this season and has an over/under total of 7 for number of total regular season wins in 2012-13.
The Seahawks recently made headlines by signing controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens but they also added Braylon Edwards just last week. The team re-signed defensive end Red Bryant back in March and also added free agent Jason Jones, formerly of the Titans. Of course, Seattle’s biggest move this offseason was signing free agent quarterback Matt Flynn, who turned heads with his six-touchdown performance for the Packers in a Week 17 victory over the Lions last season.
In the draft, the Seahawks surprised observers by selecting West Virginia linebacker Bruce Irvin, whom many feel as though doesn’t have a true position in the NFL. In the second round, the Hawks selected outside linebacker Bobby Wagner and in the third they took Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson, who is currently competing with Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson for the right to start in Week 1. The Hawks also took Utah State running back Robert Turbin in the fourth round, as well as Florida DT Jaye Howard.
The Seahawks have an underrated defense, which starts with their solid young secondary. The question is whether or not Flynn will emerge as a capable starter and compete on a consistent basis. While he showed flashes of greatness in Green Bay, being able to win with fewer weapons will be his biggest challenge in Seattle. If he surprises, this team is a sleeper to win more than seven games in 2012.
